Hacking Money: Why Aren't We?
There's a revolution in personal finance happening online. You can get a hold on your own spending neuroses with Mint, you can collect donations through Pledgie, and with Kickstarter you can even get your seed funding from the crowd.
But where are the hackers? Mint has two competitors with simple REST APIs, and yet no one seems to be using them. Why aren't developers demanding Mint and Yodlee open their data for us to visualize, archive, and build off of?
This talk will show a brief example of what's possible with the APIs that exist today, explain what the obstacles are to going further, and challenge people to cast off the taboos around discussing money, so we can get to hacking it.
